5 Ways to Form a Habit
It takes 21 consistent days to form a habit. So for 21 days, I decided to focus a little more on improvements I want to make in my life.
Developing a new habit isn’t easy. The motivation and excitement we feel at first doesn’t actually last for more than a couple of days. It takes time, patience, and a lot of work. But it can be done.
Here are 5 ways that you can follow to develop a new habit. These practices are very easy to implement in your day-to-day life. If you practice them, you will notice how small and slight changes can make a huge difference in your lifestyle.
1. Set a goal
When you set a goal, always start small. Make a small commitment first, and then gradually level up. For example, if you want to develop a morning walking habit, start with a 10-minute walk and then gradually increase your time.
2. Be consistent
Consistency is the key to success. When you consistently do something, you create a relationship with that thing. You are in flow, you are in motion, and it becomes a cycle.
3. Develop a pattern
For example, if you have a pattern of watching tv before bed, you can create a new one by keeping your book near the tv remote. You can add reading to your pattern or swap out the tv for a book.
4. Change your environment
Create an environment that will help you achieve your goal. Keep everything that inspires you and motivates you and avoid things that distract you. For example, if you want to walk every day, make your walking shoes visible. Place them near the front door. It’s that simple.
5. Reward yourself
Reward yourself with something you love when you achieve the desired outcome. The success in reaching your desired outcome will motivate you to create more habits to reach a bigger goal.
Habits play a crucial role in one’s life. Good habits lead you to greatness and bad habits lead you to nothing.
